Again, apologies for the camera situation... i'll rectify it soonish (4-6months, max lol)

This canvas is an older late 09, 2010 ish piece. Its unfinished, and from when I was learning how to control non-miniatures brushwork... Very light watercolours, this thing literally fades before your eyes in direct sunlight (even with the sealant thats on it). Over the horizon, thats where the Legend of the Oracle Thumb is set, essentially in a giant glass crater... a short story that inspired the novella.

In-universe, this is a famous city built on a sacred oasis, where a great king of people lives that is said to never die...

This piece did not at all turn out anywhere near as awesome as the A3 concept sketch I had for it, nor the ream of scribbles id made of it, nor the vast albums of reference photos I collected to get a "feel" of this great city for my Novella. Something truly does happen between the ideas stage and the hand, and the canvas. I dislike the medium of canvas stuff, and really have learned much more respect for masters of that media. I think i'll stick to pens and paper and sketchy for the time being...
Yet, the incomplete first and second rings have a certain impressionist appeal, especially when juxtaposed with the immaculate castle/palace/inner sanctum and the desert.

Based on my sketches and reference photos, I currently have 2 commissioned works in the pipeline of this city. I'll do a redux and maybe a version 2 and 3, after I finish with the atlantis series of paintings...

Reminds me of Salvidor Dali's landmark artwork.

@Ohthehumanityplz, Thanks! Im flattered =), though I never looked at the painting from that perspective. Come to think of it, it is rather reminiscent of Dali's Rose... V2 and v3 will be much better however, drawn from different angles and with caligraphy for buildings etc... in a medium I have much more control over: Charcoal and Pens! Sorta like the Urbino "Ideal City" meets surrealism/expressionism which resonates with the conflation of Rome and Petra...

Theres a series of paintings depicting the Tower of Babel that I wanted to evoke, it could be fun to go back and try to do something like that further down the line.

That white space of blank canvas though... something in me wants to "finish" this canvas, it nags at me... Do you find with your work that, after you've given up working on it, you want to go back and polish it up some more? Also, how goes the scroll arts? That is something I'm keen to test out some time when I have the time to focus on it; it looks like a fun media if for texture alone!

Actually, for your question, I happen to try sticking to one piece per project[one for traditional and another digital](except for my blog art and sketches). It gives me focus until I feel the piece is truly 'complete'.

I actually haven't posted all of the boredom scroll entries or added new entries since I want to post the previous entries before adding more. I've got a sketchbook, so I can draw in that while I post both sketch-things onto my gallery.

Version 2 is on a thick board, made with markers and various pens and charcoal... much nicer, has a real characterful Calligraphy feel to it.
